Sarajevo 🇧🇦 and Trebević mountain

PART 3 of our Bosnia and Herzegovina 4x4 Road Trip series!

We had a great two days on Vlašić mountain, but it was time to go back to civilization. Driving downhill towards Travnik, we got to see some amazing views. Our destination for the night was the capital, Sarajevo. We had to stock up on groceries and engine coolant to keep the truck running in the scorching summer heat.

We had been to Sarajevo before a few years ago, so this time our visit was limited to an overnight stay – but we still got to explore the city and have a few beers. There is obviously a lot more to discover in town, but we were ready to hit the mountains again the next morning.

The next morning, we drove up Trebević mountain to enjoy the views of the city and to see some of the abandoned ruins.

We visited the Sarajevo Olympic Bobsleigh and Luge Track, which was built for the 1984 Winter Olympics. Today, it is abandoned and left to decay, bearing witness to vanished times.

The view from the peak of Trebević mountain is truly stunning, but the gravel road was in terrible shape and it took quite some effort to make it to the top, even though we came well-prepared with our 4x4 truck.

The final episode will feature Banja Luka in Republika Srpska, the Serb entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
