Early Scent Introduction Neonatal

Finishing up our Early Scent Introduction Neonatal days with the scent of thyme. ESI introduces us neonates to a variety of pungent scent items, as well as items we may interact with in our daily life. This exercise means we have the potential to be more alert companion, service, detection, hunting and therapy dogs.

Why are Scent abilities important? Some children with autism tend to wander or run off. If their companion dog is able to easily follow the child’s scent, they can locate them. Service dogs, trained in scent work, can identify the early stages of diabetic reaction, or the onset of a seizure. All these skills are enhanced with ESI. NOTE: ESI is not training, it’s priming their olfactory sensors to prepare them for scent training when they are older.
