Fireball Explodes Over the US and Canada in a big green ball of light

On Sunday night, hundreds of individuals in the northern United States and Canada witnessed a fireball hurtling across the night sky, briefly illuminating the pitch-black. According to the American Meteor Society, 197 people reported seeing the fireball on Sunday, February 19, at about 9:51 p.m. local time in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Ontario. Videos shot all throughout the area show the fireball descending through the sky and bursting into light before disappearing into the night. This type of fireball is brought on by meteoroids burning up as they enter the atmosphere of the Earth. The magnitude of meteoroids, which can range from the size of a single grain of dust to several feet wide, is enormous. A meteoroid that enters the atmosphere quickly—between 25,000 and 160,000 miles per hour—frictions with the gas and burns up, transforming it into a meteor.
