Today is the Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time; we will hear the
continuation of the Gospel last week where Simon, after professing the
identity of Jesus, was named Peter, the rock upon which the Lord would build the Church.
This time, Jesus rebukes Peter for not accepting a messiah who will
“suffer greatly” in Jerusalem: “Get behind me, Satan! You are an
obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.”
