1963 Ford Ranchero 4X4 Update Floors and Raw V6 Power
I made a lot of progress on the 1963 Ford Ranchero 4X4 project since the last time that I posted anything on YouTube about it.
Body mounts were made. The unibody construction of the Falcons mean the body mounts under the cabin floor are mostly just to support the occupants. I think it'll do well.
A lot of the remnants of the original truck were cut out from under the bed and replaced. The primary focus is to get the weight from the cargo and rear half of the truck transferred to the new frame. Most of that is done through fabricated channel, 1/4" body mounts, HSS and angle iron.
The underside was primed with rusty metal primer and many areas were given a liberal coating of emulsified asphalt as an underbody coating, similar material used when it was built. Then I painted the underside and inner fenders and firewall with a heavy coat of satin black enamel. The images in the video show it is still wet and glossy. I realized how messy it looked when I was finished with the video. But, It's not as messy as Ford did it in 1963.
Once all the work was finished with the body, I bolted it down to the frame permanently. Then I realized I could mount the hood, fenders and doors.
One thing led to another and I'm running power to the battery and wiring the computer back into the system.
Did it run? Did we unleash the raw horsepower of that massive 4.0 liter V6?
Lots to do.
Apologies for the audio. I was using my cell phone to record. Also, I'm not sure why I come across as so tired and distracted. Must be from the advanced age.
Enjoy the video.
Cheers!
