Spa Valley Railway | Winter Steam Up! Starring 34053 & L&Y 51456 - Saturday 8th January 2022

Happy New Year! To open my YouTube channel for 2022 it is a first visit to the Spa Valley Railway since 2012 and the 'Winter Steam Up!' event. The event would feature an intensive two train service with departures from each end at every 45 minute and four locos in action, loco swaps happening at both Tunbridge Wells West and Eridge. This years visiting engine was L&Y Class 23 no.51456, visting from the East Lancashire Railway. She joined resident steam locos Hunslet Austerity no.2890 'Douglas' and BOB no.34053 'Sir Keith Park' - making her final gala appearance before overhaul. The final loco in action was Class 31 diesel no.31430 'Sister Dora'. Having not had an opportunity to see 'Sir Keith Park' at the Spa Valley Railway up to now we decided to make the most of both this final opportunity, and a rare gala in January, and book a weekend away to combine the gala with seeing near-by family.

So to the event and we decided against travelling and instead donated the cost in the donation tins at Eridge and watched the trains during the day instead, splitting our time between Groombridge and Eridge with some lineside scenes of 'Sir Keith Park' in the middle of the day. Unfortunatly the weather was poor throughout - my umbrella makes an appearance in most scenes so apoligies for that! But none the less a great day was had at a lovely line and hopefully it won't be 10 years until we return again! Thanks as always to everyone involved in organising the event!
