Using drones to conserve natural habitats | Professor Serge Wich | TEDxLiverpool

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. When you think of drones these days, most of the time we are talking about military drones. Professor Serge Wich is a primate biologist with a different plan. His current research is focussed on developing 'Conservation Drones' to help preserve life; not take it away.

Serge Wich wants to protect orang-utans and is innovatively using drones to help achieve this. He is a biologist/ecologist with a keen interest in primates and tropical rain forests. He has studied several primate species, but has been mainly focusing on orangutans and their habitat in recent years.

He currently is a professor at Liverpool John Moores University in the Research Centre in Evolutionary Anthropology and Palaeoecology.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
