India 2023, Part 1: Delhi & Agra

INDIA 2023: Part 1!

Delhi & Agra

My wife Nirali is Indian, so my first trip to India was a big deal.

We were so lucky to enjoy this trip with Nirali’s dad and our friends Kim and Shaun.

The historic architecture was humbling. The Jama Masjid mosque, shown in the first few seconds of this video, was built in the 1650s. The Qutub Minar (second 15) was finished in 1220! The Agra Fort at second 24 was completed in 1573.

The Taj Mahal (starting at second 18) was built in the 1600s. It took decades and thousands of people to complete. Only two people are buried there: the woman being honored and the man honoring her (her husband) 🤯 It was somehow even more awe-inspiring in person than I expected.

My favorite, though, was walking the streets of Old Delhi. They say India hits all 5 of your senses. Nowhere was this more true than walking on the narrow streets of Old Delhi. You’re dodging beeping motorcycles, tuk tuks, and sometimes even cars. You’re getting bumped into constantly by others doing the same. The air is a thick with smoke, grit, smog. Everywhere, there are colors, beautiful architectural moments, WIRES, dogs. It’s awesome.

For this part of the trip we stayed at the Oberoi. It was fantastic.

Next stop: Jaisalmer, for one of the most amazing weddings I’ve ever seen!
