Nobile di Montepulciano - a beginner's guide from Italy
Are you a wine lover? Have you heard about Nobile di Montepulciano? Well, if you are fond of red wine, then this is a must try! This famous wine is originally from the Tuscan hills of the province of Siena with a unique history, artistic, and landscape heritage. But, do you know what makes this wine so special and popular?
This wine makes a perfect summer as well as a winter drink. Therefore, it is also known as a “True Nobleman’s Wine”. In the year 1980, the production area was recognized as the controlled and guaranteed designation of the origin of Nobile di Montepulciano. The area of production where the wine is produced is almost around 2000 hectares.
The grapes that are used for the production of Nobile di Montepulciano are Sangiovese for a minimum of 70%. Some other varieties include Canaiolo (Nero) and Mammolo which in any case are cultivated in Tuscany. The harvest of this wine takes place throughout the month of October or whenever the winemakers feel that the grapes are at their best depending on the season. Some people prefer the traditional method while others use machines to harvest. Once the harvesting is completed, all the grapes are taken to the fermentation center and the fermentation takes around 18 to 22 days.
When it comes to maturation of the wine, in entirely depends on the winemakers to decide how to mature their wine but it should not be less than 2 years. The bottling is done under the controlled and origin designation of the area to ensure authenticity.
Apart from Nobile di Montepulciano, Tuscany also produces some other famous wines which are Brunello Di Montalcino, Chianti Classico, and Morellino Di Scansano.
How much does Nobile di Montepulciano cost? Well, you can easily find a good bottle of wine at less than € 10. And, if the wine is properly preserved, it can last up to 15 years and it is recommended to wait for 6-7 years before opening a premium bottle of wine.
