Brian Brough - Roast Duck

‘duck pieces in… okay, we let them go nice and brown’

This track was started in September 2025 and finished in March 2026. I wrote the piano chords about ten years or so and I knew I wanted to build them into some kind of housey-type track, and then when I found the Koala sampler app last Sunmer, which is easily the best five pounds I’ve ever spent on anything, I was able to finally start the track. I knew that I wanted some kind of string pad answering the piano chords, reminiscent of the long held chord that follows the short chords in Deep Burnt by Pépé Bradock, and to that end I used the strings that he originally sampled for that track from Freddie Hubbard’s Little Sunflower, and blended them with the string pad from Madonna’s Vogue (which also get used in Rockpooling - I’m a sucker for that opening chord with its open fourth and seventh). Everything else in that happens in this track is just a result of a happy accident really. The opening sample is taken from a school band rehearsal recording that was lying around on my phone, and there are also vocals by the late great Keith Floyd that appear later in the track. The artwork was made using Pixlr Express.
