Journalist Killed in Central Kyiv: Nemtsov's friend Pavlo Sheremet died in car blast

An outrageous crime in the very centre of Kyiv. On Wednesday, July 20th, an acclaimed Ukrainian journalist Pavlo Sheremet was killed in a car blast. The vehicle exploded at about 7.45, as soon as he got into the transport in one of the central streets.

The automobile belonged to Olena Prytula, the owner of Ukrayinska Pravda, that is one of the influential Ukrainian online newspapers. Pavlo Sheremet was in close relations with Ms Prytula, though they were not married officially. At the moment of the blast she was not inside the car.

The police arrived at the site immediately. They insist it was a deliberate murder, for by now it is detected the bomb had been installed under the driver's seat and was controlled distantly. According to the most recent police reports, it is currently unknown whether the killers were aiming to murder Sheremet himself or his girlfriend Prytula.
