You sued your doctor.
For medical malpractice.
Your doctor denies all your claims.
That means your case is going to trial.
Two to three years later, your case actually comes up for trial.
Your lawyer calls you to the witness stand to testify.
When he's done asking you questions, your lawyer will sit down.
It's now time for cross examination.
That's the high point for any trial.
That's where the real drama lies in any civil jury trial.
But did you know that a really experienced attorney will limit your answers to just four different options during cross examination?
It's true.
Most people think that you can only answer a question either 'yes' or 'no' in response to the opposing attorney's questions.
That's not true.
There are actually four different answers you can give.
Here they are...
(1) Yes,
(2) No,
(3) I don't know or
(4) I can't answer that question
That's it.
A smart lawyer will only ask you short, leading questions that call for a yes or no answer. If you can't answer the question, he'll tell you to tell him that without giving an explanation why you can't answer his question.
If you don't know the answer to the question, then tell the opposing lawyer you don't know and he'll ask another question.
