Everything You Need To Know About Novonix:
There are two main side of the business cur renting, testing and supply of synethic graphite, let me explain.

The company started in 2013 by Dr. Chris Burns and Dr David Stevens focusing on testing equipment for measuring battery performance in weeks instead of months or years.

This is a game changer for battery engineers, since now they can do a/b test on different element compositions in a battery, and know the performance difference in weeks.

As part of the testing side of the business, novonix have R&D relationships with Dalhousie university, where they incubate new battery materials or manufacturing processes.

Given their ability to test battery materials extremely quickly, this enabled novonix to create a form of synthetic graphite that has a longer cycle life and cheaper to produce. (Synthetic Graphite makes up of 50% of the battery depending on the design)

Which are key characteristics that’ll help reduce the battery cost in an EV. This is really important to the mass adoption of EVs, and since the most expensive component in an electric vehicle is the battery pack.

Those are the two main operations in the business at the moment, providing testing services, and supplying synthetic graphite to battery makers.

What We Know So Far About The Novonix Tesla Partnership Rumour:
- The rumour started from when novonix announce their new patent around a new manufacturing process, with a quote in the announcement from Jeff Dahn.

- Jeff Dahn are one of the few researchers who are incredibly well known in the battery tech space, and a quote from him weights a lot.

- Further, relationship between Dr. Chris Burns and Jeff Dahn goes way back. Dr Burn’s PhD thesis which led to the high accuracy battery testing equipment was done under the guidance of Jeff Dahh.

- And dr. Burns was a former battery research engineer in Tesla right when Jeff Dahn signed an exclusive partnership to do research with Tesla.

- What’s more interesting is that in a paper released by Jeff Dahn in 2019 where he essentially documented how you’ll go about making a million mile battery, artificial graphite is part of that recipe. The artificial graphite used in the paper originated from China, and who can make better graphite than the Chinese at this point? Novonix.

So the partnership with Tesla definitely have legs either directly or indirectly via Sanyo.
