Pasar Manir, Kuala Terengganu - Trying Tapai Pulut, Traditional Medicine and more...

We went on a stroll to a market in Kuala Terengganu called - Pasar Manir (Manir Market), here we had the opportunity to try for the first time a couple of things, Tapai Pulut - fermented glutinous wrapped around rubber tree leaves rice is very popular here and it's normally eaten as a dessert. We must confess we were not hooked on this, it tasted too fermented for our taste but it's not bad. Another new thing we tried was Putu Bambu this mini cake is made of rice flour called suji and coloured green with extract from pandan leaf, filled with palm sugar, and steamed in bamboo tubes, hence its name, and served with grated coconut, this one was actually very nice and we would have it again and again.
The market is very famous amongst the locals in Kuala Terengganu and it sells a bit of everything so much so that Joao tried their traditional medicine only for men (if you know what I mean) and tobacco rolled in the traditional old way using old style leaves.
We bought a massive papaya for 7RM and Alex and Chris explained us all about the market and what they were selling there, from perfumes to fresh fish and fresh meat and live stock of birds, this market really had everything and before we left we even witnessed a lelong (auction).
