Harry and Meghan's interview was like 'watching the Real Housewives of LA'

Royal commentator Annabelle Sanderson says Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son Archie not receiving a royal title has “absolutely nothing to do” with the colour of his skin.

During the interview, Ms Markle said she was told when pregnant with her son he would not be granted a title and concerns within the Royal Family were allegedly raised over the colour of Archie’s skin.

“It had absolutely nothing to do with the colour of Archie’s skin, it’s actually down to protocol by George V that only the children and grandchildren of the reigning monarch get a title,” Ms Sanderson told Sky News.

“The reasons the Cambridge children have a title is because the Queen issued letters patent.

“So when Charles becomes king, Archie and new … girl Sussex move up and become grandchildren of the monarch, then it changes.

“I think there are two separate issues here, I think she’s conflating something that maybe she doesn’t understand about royal protocol with an outrageous comment that someone allegedly made.”

Ms Sanderson said the whole sit-down interview was “strange” to watch and “it was a little bit like watching the Real Housewives of LA rather than something to do with the monarchy because that’s just not what happens with the Royal Family in this country”.

“They don’t complain and they don’t explain. That’s why the ‘no comment’ thing I think really bothered Meghan in particular because she doesn’t come from that background, because they just put up with things being written about them, they don’t respond to lots of media speculation,” she said.
