At Mentally Retarded Children New Year's Matinee. "Real Russia" ep.21

Our friend Nataly, who showed for us her apartment in typical Soviet Union Khruscshyovka building in the 17th episode, works as an educator in the special center for mentally retarded children. Mostly kids with Down Syndrome and autism.

At the 30th of December, 2012 they had their New Year's Matinee but they never expected an epic fail that was going to happen with them. The person who promised to be their Father Frost catched the flue and told about some hours before the Matinee.

But Nataly called me (Sergey Baklykov) and desperately asked to help her and I immediately agreed. Even though I never been in the role of Father Frost (Russian analogue of Santa Claus) before, I decided that I will get it done. I wanted to help.

I also did understand that it could be a good episode for "Real Russia". Fortunately, that Center for mentally retarded kids is at the same street where the TV channel where our cameraman Sergey Pichugin works. I called him and snatched from work for a couple of hours to film this.

I hope this video will show you that Russia is not without the kind people who helps the Centers like this work and that not all parents in Russia leave their kids with Down Syndrome or autism in Orphanages but care for them during all of their Life no matter what. I have to notice, this is not an Orphanage, this is just like a day care (kinder garten) but only for special children. All of these kids having parents.
