Motherland of Nevsky. Pereslavl-Zalessky, Russia. Golden Ring Tour. Town 2 of 8.

Sergiyev Posad is an old Russian town founded by Yuri Dolgorukiy (Yuri Long-Handed) in 1152. He’s also founded Moscow in 1147. Yuri Dolgorukiy wanted Pereslavl-Zalessky to be the capital of North-Eastern Ancient Rus.

Pereslavl-Zalessky is located in 140km from Moscow by the interstate up to the city of Yaroslavl.

The historical center of Pereslavl-Zalessky was founded around 2.5km long earthworks. Partly they are saved still now.

In the center of town is the Red Square with the oldest Transfiguration Cathedral made of white stone.

Near Transfiguration Cathedral in 1220 the Prince Alexander Nevsky was born and later baptised there.

Pereslavl-Zalessky is the second town or eight towns of Golden Ring of Russia.
