แรกฉันเจอคือแมลงวันเสียงหึ่งหึ่ง ท้องนภาตราตรึงไร้เมฆหม่น
อากาศร้อนดินระแหงแล้งเหลือทน เสียงอึงอลในอากาศดาษดา
ผ่านทะเลทรายโดยฉันขี่ม้าไร้ชื่อ ฝนไม่ตกนั่นก็คือช่างหรรษา
ในทะเลทรายไม่ต้องจำชื่อเลยนา เพราะไม่มีใครนำพาความเจ็บช้ำ
ผ่านสองวันในทะเลทรายใต้แสงกล้า ผิวฉันฝ่าแดดแรงแดงกระหน่ำ
ผ่านสามวันในทะเลทรายสนุกล้ำ มองเห็นก้นแม่น้ำแสนสำราญ
อีกเรื่องราวเนานานมันบอกย้ำ ว่าเคยมีแม่น้ำนั้นไหลผ่าน
ได้ยินเข้าทำฉันเศร้าหาใดปาน ที่คิดว่าคงถึงกาลของแม่น้ำ
ผ่านเก้าวันฉันปล่อยม้าเป็นอิสระ ด้วยทะเลทรายกลายสถานะเป็นชลฉ่ำ
อุดมด้วยพืช,นก,หิน,หลายสิ่งซ้ำ ทั้งทรายก่ำ,เนินทราย,รอยพื้นทราย
มหาสมุทรคือทะเลทรายในครั้งนั้น ชีวิตมันจมฝังยังดินสลาย
ถูกบดบังโดยแนบเนียนเพียรท้าทาย จากเบื้องบนดลจุดหมายให้อำพราง
ใต้นครามากมายหลายชีวิต สิงสถิตด้วยใจรักสมัครสร้าง
แต่แปลกใจมนุษย์ด้วยกันกลับสวนทาง รักกระจ่างกลางใจนั้นพลันไม่แล.

"A Horse With No Name" เจ้าม้าไม่มีชื่อ หรือจะมีความหมายที่แอบแฝงจากอาการถูก"ม้าดีด" เพราะเคยถูก Banned จากวิทยุหลายสถานีในเมืองแคนซัส จากคำว่า Horse ซึ่งเป็นคำแสลง ใน Kansas City หมายถึงสารเสพติดพวกเฮโรอีน เหมือนที่คนไทยเคยเรียกยาบ้าว่ายาม้านั่นเอง และเมื่อครั้งที่วงอเมริกาไปเปิดการแสดงในงานของ Penn Jillette ที่ Atlantic City ก็โดนเจ้าของงานถามถึงความหมาย "there were plants and birds and rocks and things" ซึ่งคำตอบที่ได้รับคือ ตอนเขียนเพลงนี้ เขากำลังเมากัญชาอยู่

เพลงนี้เดิมชื่อ "Desert Song,"แต่งโดย Dewey Bunnell สมัยอายุ18 วันนั้นเป็นหน้าฝนของอังกฤษแต่อากาศร้อนมาก เขานึกถึงวัยเด็กสมัยครั้งเมื่อพักอยู่กับครอบครัวในฐานทัพอากาศ Vandenberg ใน Santa Barbara รัฐ California สภาพอากาศที่นั่นร้อนและแล้งมาก

กับซาวด์ที่สะอาดหูของ อะคูสติคกีตาร์ ที่ขึ้น Intro ด้วยคีย์ Em คลอด้วยเสียงคอร์ดจากกีตาร์12 สายใน Pattern D E D G B D, รับด้วย เบส กลองชุด และกลองบองก้า เล่าถึงทริปเดินทางสู่ทะเลทราย สื่อถึงสถานที่อันสงบเงียบ เจ้าม้าไม่มีชื่อที่ถูกปล่อยให้เป็นอิสระใน 9 วัน.

A Horse With No Name เป็นเพลงอันดับ 1ของชาร์ต “Billboard Top Ten Single 1972” เบียดเพลง Heart of Gold ของ Niel Young หล่นอันดับลงไป คว้าแผ่นทองคำมาครอง การันตีโดย RIAA หรือThe Recording Industry Association of America.สมาคมผู้ประกอบธุรกิจทางด้านแผ่นเสียงของสหรัฐ
