Judge president Petrus Damaseb sentenced Sydney Ikosa to 20 years in prison for killing his daughter
Judge president Petrus Damaseb has sentenced Sydney Ikosa to 20 years in prison for killing his daughter, Joy Ikosa, in June 2020 at their home in the Butterfly location of Katima Mulilo. Damaseb, who presided over Ikosa's trial during a circuit session of the High Court at Katima Mulilo, on Friday also sentenced Ikosa to a jail term of six years for child abuse and neglect and six months' imprisonment for common assault. He further ordered that Ikosa serve his sentences concurrently. Ikosa’s former wife and co-accused, Chuma Simekwazi, received a wholly suspended sentence of six years' imprisonment for child abuse and neglect, on condition that she does not commit a similar offence during the period of suspension.
