R'tze Vi-m’nuhateinu (Embrace Our Rest)

This singing style is based on traditional hazzanut - embellished freestyle cantorial recitative performed in unmetered rhythm, which is often referred to as “Shirat Ha-Regesh” or “emotional singing”. Composed by Israel Alter (1901-1979), this piece was recorded in Berlin and is included in the album 'Heritage - Treasures of Jewish-German Composers'. I especially love Cantor Alter's interpretation of the words 've-ta’her libenu le-ovd'kha be-emet' (purify our hearts to serve You truly). I hope it helps set your hearts up for Shabbat and the upcoming holiday of Shavuot.
