At 3560 feet (1085 m) Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales. It is also unique in that it has the only rack and pinion railway in the UK. This is one of the narrow gauge “Great Little Trains of Wales”, and it takes you to within 80 vertical feet of the summit.
September 2nd 2014 was one of the rare good viewing days with clouds well clear of the summit. But this wasn't just good fortune, I had checked this on-line the day before, at the time I made the booking.
