The Border Dispute Revealed | Abandoned Stone Houses in Alaska | Destination Adventure
This story has been in the back of my mind for a year now, and I am so excited to share it with you all. Last year I explored a location that was supposed to contain remains from when Russia occupied Alaska. The location was fantastic, and the audience was amazed, but one viewer was not convinced. I received an email stating that the location could have been from the Canada Alaska border dispute, from the late 1800's. This was the first I had ever hear of this story, and after doing some deep digging, I believed the gentleman may be correct. This is a part of history between Canada and USA that is not taught, and rarely even discussed, so proving which story was correct would be a challenge.
The ruins I had filmed were from one of four apparent storehouses built in the 1890's by the army corp of engineers, so I thought a comparison to another of the structures would prove which story is correct. Finding this structure was a bit more challenging than the previous, but upon arrival it was obvious that the other gentleman was correct. The two structures are incredibly similar, with only one exception, the stone gable. I also stopped and filmed the one in Hyder Alaska, which is the only of the four that has been restored. At this point, I have been able to film storehouse 1, 3 and 4, so I think a visit to storehouse 2 will be necessary in the near future.
