Trump-Backed Candidates Score Major Primary Wins in Kentucky and Georgia

President Donald Trump-backed candidates secured major victories in key primary races across the country, highlighting the former president’s continued influence within the Republican Party. In Kentucky, longtime Congressman Thomas Massie lost his primary after repeatedly breaking with Trump on issues including Iran, Ukraine, and the release of Jeffrey Epstein-related documents.

In Georgia, Republican Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones defeated Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in the governor’s race. Raffensperger gained national attention after resisting Trump’s efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results. Democrats also selected former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms as their nominee for governor.

Political attention is now shifting to Texas, where Senator John Cornyn faces Attorney General Ken Paxton in a closely watched Republican Senate runoff. Trump has endorsed Paxton despite past investigations and impeachment efforts tied to corruption allegations. The winner will face Democrat James Talarico in the general election.
