Kaohsiung recognized with award for light rail

Kaohsiung’s light rail system received the Outstanding Transport Plan Award from Taiwan’s Chinese Institute of Transportation for its 22-kilometer, 38-station network that served 10.31 million passengers in October. Presented during the institute’s annual meeting, the award recognizes the city’s efforts to provide a safe and eco-friendly transport system. Kaohsiung MRT Director Wu Chia-chang highlighted the system’s pioneering design as Taiwan’s first light rail, featuring a green tunnel with grass and trees along the route and a power system free of overhead lines. He also emphasized plans to enhance efficiency using AI and other technologies.
