Varadkar won't accept builders' claims (housing crisis) is this about VOTES?
If you take the headline at face value, Mr varadkar wont believe the facts, is that the leader Ireland need right now. How is the housing issue going to be solved if the taoiseach wont believe the people that have the most data and are at the very front line of this.
Is more statements with zero policy really needed at this point, in the middle of a housing crisis?
Is Mr Varadkar statements simple classic political tactics to shift the blame and use the media to make the villain out of builders and developers and label them as profit-hungry builders and distract from poor policys? Or is there more to it.
The Irish Examiner head line on this statement is “varadkar wont take builders claims apartments are financially unviable as truth”.
Leo also states within the report, “ I often say that there are, I think about 70,000 planning permissions out there for new housing mostly apartments but they’re not activated or not being built, and I want to see them under construction
Mr Varadkar must think this statement in itself is proof that apartments are not feasible in many locations if they have planning and not being built. Does Leo really think all the Builders have come together and agree not to build apartments? They are profit-driven companies, if they were feasible, they would be built as there is demand.
