Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis - causes, life cycle, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment

Equine protozoal myeloencephalitis is a neurologic disease in horses caused by Sarcocystis neurona. Horses get infected by ingesting feed or water contaminated with opossum feces that have sporulated oocysts. Various neurologic signs can arise with spinal cord involvement being more common than brain involvement.
