The M62 engine is great but its Achilles heel is in the timing chain. The tensioner wears out leading to a loose chain which will destroy the plastic guides, eat in to metal and kill an engine. Spending 10 minutes and $50 to replace your tensioner is one of the most important preventative maintanence items for these cars. My specific case is a 2000 BMW 540i.
