Olha Sedinkina – "Time Flows" for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano
Maksym Marynchuk - clarinet,
Iryna Berchuk - piano,
Sofia Okrutna - cello
Olha Sedinkina: “The piece "Time Flows" is written for a piano trio: piano, clarinet, and cello in E major. It was created because I am currently in a constant state where the flow of time, which cannot be stopped, troubles me. This feeling has intensified with the full-scale war, as no day wants to be missed, and generally, you never know if you will be the next target of the russians. It is a brief work in which short, changing phrases intertwine: an analogy to the flow of events in life. The rhythm is fueled by the fact that each beat is exactly one second long – as if marking time by a clock. In the final bars, the main idea of the piece is expressed among the instruments: specifically, the question - no second returns, are you using them worthily?”
About the Project
Music by young Lviv composers, written during the full-scale war, sounds like the voice of youth who live and reflect, dream, fight, and continue to create.
The concert of student composers is a continuation of the "Music of Young Composers" project, which started in 2020 at the Lviv Organ Hall. As part of the strategy to promote Ukrainian classical music, Ukrainian Live, in collaboration with the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy and the Lviv Organ Hall, the project introduces young artists and presents their work.
This is music on the edge of time. A reflection of the present and a temporary escape into a parallel reality, it is a chronicle of the war intertwined with memories from peaceful life and dreams of victory.
Project Curators:
Taras Demko, Ivan Ostapovych – directors of the Lviv Organ Hall
Ostap Manulyak, Bohdana Frolyak – composers, associate professors at the Department of Composition of the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy.
Video - Yevhen Chervonyi
Sound engineer - Volodymyr Punko
Cover design - Arseniy Diskovskyi
Live recording in Lviv Organ Hall (06.04.2024)
