With that being said, The Queen is always extremely supportive of our troops and has been spotted many times visiting them during day parades and other events. As most people know we are so lucky to have such a top-notch military and we are all so proud and honoured to have such a brilliant defence. In 2013, her majesty visited a day parade in Cumbria, the north west of England, where a select few of the 1st Battalion Duke of Lancaster Regiment were lined up waiting to greet her. This is where one soldier does something completely out of the ordinary. When the Queen finished talking to Thirty-two-year-old Sergeant Rusiate Bolavucu she swiftly walks to the soldier next to him. But what he does next may really surprise you. He slowly lowers himself to the floor, sit downs with his legs crossed, takes his hat off and starts clapping underneath the Queen. The Queen immediately looked to the man underneath her and her face lit up with excitement, but to onlookers this may really confuse some, as you know there are strict protocols to follow when meeting Her Majesty. So why did he greet her in such an unusual manner?
It is reported that many who attended the parade believed that man was collapsing due to heat exhaustion, but the real reason is much more positive. This man, Rusiate Bolavucu is actually Fijian and in his home country it is vital that you show respect and admiration for elders and people of importance. He stated "It is a traditional and cultural thing for people from Fiji to so when they meet a head of state. It is a way of showing respect If you did not know In Fijian culture it is thought that good things come through the head and are passed down to the feet. It is important to make sure that one’s head is not above others in the room. The respect is shown a variety of actions taking into account body posture and position, clothing and gestures. "The Queen has been to Fiji so she knows about it, and she had asked me where I was from, so she smiled when she saw what I was doing."
