Strong storms could bring damaging wind, isolated tornado risk to Middle Tennessee

FOX 17 News is Code Red for potentially strong to severe storms across Middle Tennessee on Thursday, with damaging wind expected to be the primary threat during the afternoon and evening hours.

Storms are most likely between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., though some activity could begin developing earlier depending on how much rain moves through the region during the morning hours.

The main concerns include damaging straight-line winds and large hail.
There is a secondary risk for isolated “spin-up” tornadoes, which can develop quickly within lines of storms.

Thursday has a possible “sneaky spin-up tornado” setup, with the tornado threat not expected to be widespread, but could still prompt warnings in some areas.
Forecast timing and storm intensity could shift depending on morning weather conditions.

Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware throughout the day and have multiple ways to receive warnings if severe weather develops.
