Suda is a 15 years old elephant girl and has been painting for 10 years. She is responsible for raising thousands of baht for our elephant hospital at Maetaeng Elephant Park and Clinic in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She is a very gentle lady and she loves to paint and is very precise with all her paintings.

Not every elephant can paint, it’s only the smartest cleverest ones that can. It takes four to six months to train an elephant to paint. They learn by copying, the mahout does stroke and then guide his elephant, if the stroke is good then the reward is given, bananas, lots of them. The elephants are taught two or three different pictures but as their skills develop other smaller details will be added.
