Film productions are expensive, time consuming, and no matter how much you prepare, a risk. Filmmaking is also a collaborative profession that relies heavily on TRUST and TEAMWORK. This may sound easy, but when your crew is put to the test like ours was, it’s up to you to lead the team forward, make sure everyone is SAFE, and then FINISH your film.
 
Today I’m finally telling the story about what happened during the making of my NYU senior thesis film, and how despite being as prepared as we were, the shoot was almost shut down mid-production! Accidents can happen to anyone, and what happened to us was straight out of a Director’s WORST nightmare, but it’s how we reacted and came together that made all the difference.
 
If you’re interested in being a filmmaker or want to go to film school, it is not easy. Here’s a real look at what goes into a NYU Senior Thesis film and how the Advanced Narrative Production class works. Not everyone actually finishes their short film, but as someone who did, let me say it’s very rewarding and honestly feels awesome to finish!
