Doug Bare | In Memory Of The Man And His Music
Talented keyboardist, Doug Bare passed away on February 5, 2018. Emphasis Records artist Stevie Hawkins had the honor of playing with Doug during 1991, along with Tommy Strain, a very talented guitarist and vocalist from Atlanta. This video provided by Hawkins, is a tribute to Doug and his music.
Doug Bare was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, growing up in the French Quarter where he began playing piano at age 8. As his passion and interest for music grew, Doug graduated from the piano to playing the Hammond B-3 organ by the time he was 10 years old, and evolved into one of the all time great keyboard players.
Doug’s' musical inspiration came from the local music of New Orleans as well as the music of Motown, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Earth Wind & Fire, and Johnny & Edgar Winter, among many others. Doug's recording and touring career included, Whiteface (Mercury Records), Bareback, John Mayall, Mothers Finest, Rick Medlocke & Blackfoot, Pat Travers, Warp Drive, Paul Davis, and most recently, Funky Blues Messiahs.
The music in this video is previously unheard and performed live by Doug Bare, Tommy Strain and Stevie Hawkins, at Hemingway's, a former nightclub in Decatur, GA. The group was called "Bare & Strain" at the time. The audio was taken from a cassette tape, which is a mono board mix by engineer, Ron Norris. Norris is also an amazing guitarist and vocalist.
May Doug rest in peace. He will never be forgotten by those who knew him, and by those who created music with him.
