DrainSpotters #61 - Stuck As!

Blocked sewer drain at local university, Drain jetted to clear, lots of fat & coffee/ milk scum but toilet paper coming out slowly but I suspected line was clear, but maybe had a fault or poor pipe eork.

Plumber asked me to jet it with the large head once more, which I did & unfortunately the head went up a branch line to a buried & inaccessible floor waste drain by the student cafeteria hot drinks area.

I ran the drain cameras through the line & it was clear, but the head dropped into the hidden trap catching the back nut on the jet head. If the trap had had a accessible inspection (as it should) I would have been able to free it quickly. I couldn't just yank it free from the manhole as the pipe had several turns that reduced the pulling power so the head could not be freed.

We found a 45 degree inspection going in the dowstream direction about 2-3m (6 - 9 feet) from where the head was trapped. we had to cut the inspection right down to the bottom plate level & I had to cover my entire are in disk soap to slip it down the pipe in the wrong direction so my fingers could just grab the hose. I them pulled some hose through from the manhole as I removed my arm from the inspection hole & had a loop of hose out of the inspection.

Because the inspection is facing the forward (downstream) direction, I had to cut the hose & spend several minutes pulling drain head free.

See the next video where I show how I repair damaged or cut hoses.
