Barrow Bookstore in downtown Concord, Massachusetts, has been named among the nation's best independent bookstores by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, ranking second this year (up from fourth last year). The award considers public votes, a panel of experts, and editors. Since opening in 1971, Barrow Bookstore has focused on gently read and antique titles across genres, with a special emphasis on Concord authors such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Louisa May Alcott, and Henry David Thoreau, and also offers literary gifts, crafts, and local memorabilia produced by staff. The shop hosts regular readings and seasonal events and is a woman-owned business for three generations. Located at 79 Main St., the shop not only sells books but also celebrates Concord’s literary history through events and community programming.
