Nigel - My Favorite Lion of the Lion & Safari Park in Johannesburg, South Africa

While tourists were only allowed to interact with lion cubs aged 3-4 months, we volunteers were in for a special treat, as we also had access to an enclosure with some older lions. One of them was Nigel. At 8 months, he was just right in-between a cute cub and an adolescent lion. Still very playful at times, but also showing characteristics of a strong, adult lion. Out of the over 80 lions on property, Nigel clearly was my favorite, as it was a very special feeling, being able to get close to him (at least when he allowed me to!). I had to be careful and observe his activity level first, whenever I was walking up to his habitat. I enjoyed each and every moment I was able to be with him, in fact, cuddling with Nigel was my favorite thing to do during my 2 weeks volunteership at the Lion & Safari Park!
