Police made several arrests and prevented a protest against coronavirus restrictions taking place in London's Speakers' Corner on Sunday.

Upon assembling, protesters were immediately and sometimes forcibly arrested and others were instructed to disperse.

The protest follows countless others across the country being held against the new restrictions, which prevent outdoor gatherings of more than two people as well as large protests.

"Someone I know called Will was giving a speech earlier at Speakers' Corner, he'd been speaking for about a minute and the police came up, pulled him off his chair, and then quite forcefully and violently bundled him into the back of the police van," explained candidate for Mayor of London David Kurten.

"We have freedom, freedom is our right, it's not given to us by the government, but it has been taken away. We've lost the freedom of assembly, freedom of speech and it's absolutely wrong. We must have those freedoms back," Kurten added.

Kurten was previously a member of UKIP but has since formed his own party. He has previously denied the severity of COVID-19.

The United Kingdom is currently half-way through a four-week lockdown, with restrictions due to be reviewed on the 2nd of December.
