INTERPOL Secretary General’s 2021 New Year’s Message

As with every community, COVID-19 has been a source of profound disruption for law enforcement across the globe.

While the pandemic paralyzed many parts of society, there was no lockdown for crime or terrorists.

Criminals preyed on people’s fear of the virus to deliver malware and fake medical products.

Right wing violent extremists fuelled a narrative of xenophobia, violence, and defiance of the rule of law.

As we continue to face the pandemic and address its impact on global security, the world needs more international cooperation, not less.

We have seen what can be achieved when working towards a universal goal.

And as the world’s largest international police organization, INTERPOL will continue uniting law enforcement to address national, regional and global crime.

We will continue to make sure that police officers around the world have the information when, and where they need it.

As we move forward into 2021, our vision of making the world a safer place has never been more relevant.
