Will Holt, Judy Collins & Lynn Gold - "Shenandoah" 1963

Judy Collins, Will Holt and Lynn Gold sing "Shenandoah." The song seems to have originated in the early nineteenth century in the areas of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, with a story of a trader who fell in love with the daughter of the Indian Chief Shenandoah. This song was taken up by sailors plying these rivers in keel and Mackinaw boats, and thus made its way down the Mississippi to the open ocean where it became popular with American deep-sea sailors. This performance is from the February 1963 national TV broadcast of Dinner with the President, the 50th anniversary of the Anti Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, where an award was given to President John F. Kennedy.
