The Real Story Of Titanic's J Dawson #Shorts

#Shorts

The character Jack Dawson, played by Leonardo DiCaprio in James Cameron's Titanic was fictional. But there was an actual J Dawson on the doomed Ocean liner. However, his name was Joseph Dawson and he wasn't a passenger but a crew member who shoveled coal on the Titanic. The movie is not based on his life. In fact, James Cameron had never heard of Joseph Dawson while he was making the movie.

Similar to Jack, Joseph Dawson perished in the disaster. His body was recovered by the Mackay-Bennett and brought to Halifax and was identified by the Union Card in his pocket. Since his body was not claimed by anybody, he was buried in Fairview Lawn Cemetery

Joseph's grave, reads "J. Dawson", leaving many to believe it's Jack Dawson's grave. His grave became a popular tourist attraction after the release of the film but ironically, people who visit the grave are not necessarily remembering Joseph Dawson, the coal worker who went down with the ship but instead mourn the fictional Jack Dawson.
