Why Do We Like Different Perfumes? 10 Facts About Smell Perfume Choice Odor Smelling Fragrances

Hello and welcome to my channel.

Did you ever wonder why when we smell the same perfume as someone else we sometimes don't agree on whether we like it or even how it smells? Sometimes one person can't even smell the perfume or smells something unpleasant... Take for example, people's experiences with the perfumes Molecule 01 or Glossier You.

Here I give you a few examples of why our sense of smell might vary through 10 facts about smell and a few examples. This goes a long way to explaining why different people like different perfumes and fragrances. I don't touch on the entire other huge elephant in the room for what makes people like or dislike certain perfumes / scent notes: that is cultural experience, social conditioning and scent memory... those are huge subjects, possibly for another video if there is interest!

I've based this video heavily on points made in popular science articles but I've tried to verify the facts presented using published scientific journal sources rather than relying on journalistic sources, because to be fair, the numbers differed QUITE a bit for the same "facts". Since I am not an expert, if I found a published peer reviewed source, I used those numbers / facts.
