Repertoire: Haydn's Amazing Seven Last Words
The full title is: The Seven Last Words of the Savior on the Cross, one of the most remarkable orchestral works of the entire eighteenth century. Believe it or not, this "sacred" music includes the marvelous moment where Haydn invented the triple-forte (for the "earthquake" at the end). Let me take you through the piece, and show you why it's such an extraordinary creation, even for an innovative genius like Haydn.
