Introducing Katelyn Emerson - 2016 AGO NYACOP First Prize Winner

In this video feature from the Pro Organo label, we meet Katelyn Emerson, the First Prize Winner of the 2016 National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance, also known as NYACOP. The NYACOP Competition culminates once every two years in a final competition, which is held during the biennial national convention of the American Guild of Organists. NYACOP is considered one of the world's most prestigious and rigorous of competitions for young organists. In the video, Katelyn Emerson gives an extended interview about her background, which includes several organist training programs and experiences as a teenager (including participation in the AGO's Pipe Organ Encounters), as well as study at both the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and study in France under the auspices of a Fulbright Scholarship.

In the video, Katelyn performs excerpts from the Choral-Improvisation on the theme "Victimae paschali laudes" by Charles Tournemire and a new work, entitled Évocation III, by French organist-improvisateur-composer Thierry Escaich. The performances and interview were held at The Church of the Advent in Boston, where Ms. Emerson serves in 2017 as Associate Organist and Choirmaster, and where she is heard performing upon the church's 1936-vintage Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ.

Katelyn Emerson’s debut CD on Pro Organo is one component of the First Prize of the NYACOP Competition. Her new CD, entitled Evocations, is to be released on Compact Disc and in internet download on 15 May 2017.
