Introduction to Board Climbing & Training | Moonboard and Woodie System Board
Using a system board is such an important part of many of your climbing training routines! What are the key things we need to look out for? Ollie takes us through a short tour of the Moonboard and Woodie System Board at the Depot in Sheffield.
One of the key things to get right initially is the difficulty of the board - there is little point in starting on a system board that's way too easy or too hard. Trying out very short, individual sequences on a board is a great way to make an initial assessment of what's useful and relevant.
Don't forget that system board training is just that.... system board training. It's not climbing on rock outside or comp climbing style, so make sure you're aware of where your strengths and weaknesses lie! If you feel weak on a system board compared to other types of climbing, make sure you adjust your session... V7 outside may NOT be V7 on a system board for you!
Finally, Ollie shows you a little trick that we all use on a system board - the "force" of a square or twisting style of climbing. Making a clear distinction on movement style can be a very useful method for becoming a more rounded and well-conditioned climber, especially if it's trained in a systematic and consistent manner.
