The scene that made the Matrix possible

Did you know The Matrix was only made because of its first scene?

Warner Bros. wasn’t sure the movie would work, so they gave the Wachowskis $10 million to film a test. They spent most of it on the Trinity fight scene. Carrie-Anne Moss did most of her own stunts and even hurt her ankle, but didn’t tell anyone, fearing she’d be replaced. The scene introduced bullet time, made with about 120 cameras placed in a circle. It was revolutionary and done practically, not digitally.
When the Wachowskis showed the test footage to Warner Bros., the executives were stunned, approved the movie, and increased the budget to $60 million.
