The family was given his ashes, but he was not dead.

Tyler Chase's family was devastated when they learned that he had died from a fatal overdose and his body was found lying on the ground in a parking lot in Portland, Oregon. His body was cremated and given to the family, along with the death certificate.

However, three months later, Tyler's cousin received a shocking call from the Medical Examiner's Office. They said that a mistake had been made and Tyler wasn't dead, he was actually very much alive. She thought the call was a prank, but in reality, he had been in a rehabilitation clinic all this time.

Tyler learned he had been officially declared dead after his food assistance benefits stopped working, and he was even more astonished to find out his family had mistakenly received a stranger's ashes.

The person who had died was actually a young man who had stolen Tyler's wallet, causing them to use his smudged temporary ID to identify the body. Strangely enough, the victim looked completely different from Tyler, he was shorter, skinnier, older and had ginger hair.
