Also known as Friday Pie or Catholic Pie, the Lancashire Butter Pie has developed over the centuries as a dish that Catholics could eat on a Friday when the church prohibited the consumption of meat. Butter pie is a very simple pie - onions cooked in butter, potatoes, a bit of seasoning in a buttery shortcrust pastry. Like many simple things, butter pies are delicious.
