Athole Brose and Reel of Tulloch performed by Paul Anderson on Skinners rare early recording fiddle
Scottish fiddle player Paul Anderson performing the tunes 'Athole Brose' and the 'Reel of Tulloch', which were recorded by James 'Scott' Skinner. This was part of the 'Music of the Masters' concert during Celtic Connections 2020, when Paul was accompanied by Brian 'Beard' McAlpine on piano. The concert was a rare opportunity to perform music by iconic Scottish fiddlers, played on the composer's' own rare violins. For this Paul was playing on a rare early recording fiddle used by Skinner, which is normally kept in the Banchory Museum in Aberdeenshire.
James Skinner (Scott was added later) was born on 5 August 1843 in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, who became a Scottish dancing master, violinist, fiddler, and composer. There are over 600 of his compositions published, among the best known being "The Bonnie Lass of Bon Accord," "Cradle Song," "Bovaglie's Plaid," "The Music o' Spey," and "Hector the Hero."
