Agios Nikolaos (Άγιος Νικόλαος in Greek) is the capital of Lassithi, the eastern province of the island of Crete in Greece. The city has almost 30,000 permanent residents. Agios Nikolaos is named after the small middle age church dedicated to the saint Nicholas. The is build around the shores of lake Voulismeni, a very deep lake (more than 60 meters.
