WHO Special Initiative for Mental Health: Training HCWs on MH Interventions in Vulnerable Areas

Dr Bidari Sulaik, Municipal Health Officer of Datu Hoffer, shares some of the factors affecting people's mental health in Maguindanao.

"I observed that the problem stems from prolonged armed conflict. I believe this leads to cases of post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression due to internal displacement, loss of livelihood, and now, the strain of the pandemic," said Dr Sulaik.

WHO Philippines and the Department of Health are supporting the BARMM Ministry of Health in developing community-based mental health care (CBMH) programs with primary health care workers and non-specialists in Maguindanao province.
